review: fangirl by rainbow rowell

Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they’re off to university and Wren’s decided she doesn’t want to be one half of a pair any more - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It’s not so easy for Cath. She’s horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she’s experienced in real life. Without Wren Cath is completely on her own and totally outside her comfort zone. She’s got a surly room-mate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words …And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone. Now Cath has to decide whether she’s ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she’s realizing that there’s more to learn about love than she ever thought possible …

I know this book written by Rainbow Rowell is already on the market for a while but because it's so popular and everybody thinks it's amazing, I decided to still make a review about it. I must say for myself that I also enjoyed it myself and think it's a great book.

I'm going to start with something I liked a little less. Before I read the book, I heard there were going to be small extracts from the Simon Snow books. It made me excited and I wanted to know how the writer was going to make them & if it was relatable to the Harry potter books. Maybe even if it was relatable to the characters of the books itself. But it wasn't. I literally had to force myself to reading those extracts. Also I didn't really feel a strong connection between the storyline of the book itself and the fanfic fragments. Personally I could understand why her fan fiction was written that way, but for me there was no reflection of her real life in it and visa versa.

But besides those little details I enjoyed ready this book. Rainbow Rowell produced a beautiful character who is a reliable person towards real life fangirls and her writing style is amazing in my opinion. It isn't too difficult nor is it too simple for the average person. Also the time you need to read it isn't long at all if you are a person who likes to read. I personally could feel connected with cath and some parts even made me crack up.

Overall I think it's a good book with beautiful characters and an original plot. Ideal if you are a fangirl or if you want to know about a fangirls life and the things about fanfiction
